Yesterday was a busy day and I managed to fit in three workouts and a shoe fitting! In the morning I braved the dark and the cold and went for an easy three mile run. All of my runs right now would fall into the ‘easy’ category as I try to regain my running base after nearly 3 months with no running. I’m also fighting off a case of shin splints. Last year I received a very helpful tip to treat shin splints with 10 minutes of ice and then 10 minutes of heat. I’ve been doing this twice a day this week and it is already helping.
After my run I was off to the running shoe store for a special shoe fitting. A good friend works at my favorite running store and he agreed to come in and meet me at 8:30am, well before opening, since it was the only time our schedules worked. After 45 minutes and at least 7 pairs of shoes I think/hope I’ve found the right shoe for me – more on this later.
Since this week was the start of the Asphalt Green Tri Club winter workout schedule I was excited to start back with my favorite cycling workout. But, it doesn’t start until 8:30pm! I don’t know about you but I usually go to bed at 9:30! I couldn’t sit around for hours waiting for cycling (I’d probably fall asleep at Starbucks and get my Kindle stolen) so I decided to join the first part of the Wednesday swim. I managed to squeeze in 1000 yards before I needed to head to the cycling studio. Then I spent the next hour sweating and spinning like crazy. I love that workout!
Finally the day was over and we arrived home at 10:45. A quick bowl of oatmeal and I happily collapsed into bed. I finished off the week of training with another short run this morning and then 30 minutes of Rodney Yee’s Yoga Conditioning for Athletes.
It feels great to be working every day again. I hope that I'm finally refreshed after a lax month of training in December. I've worked hard this week and I'm really looking forward to a rest day tomorrow!

Try KT Tape for the shin spints...it was the only thing that really helped mine. It's good for a lot of other injuries too! :)
